During his long career as a lawyer, John Wellington has seen many changes. Recently, he’s seen several welcome shifts, including more open lawyer-client relationships where the focus is on working closely together to achieve goals and where engagement and interaction are prioritised.
John believes in listening to clients and those around him – he subscribes to the well-worn mantra ‘you don’t learn anything by talking’.
John is skilled in Property and Commercial Law and has worked in regional and metropolitan towns in South Australia and Victoria – as well as spending time in the Middle East.
Originally from Clare in South Australia, John now lives in Castlemaine. He is clearly drawn to the regional life where space, clean air and land combine with the friendly, openness of the community – but where the city is also within easy reach (so he can catch his son in the Ammo’s or the Melbourne Demons in action on the occasional weekend).
“I like finding out about people, understanding what they want to achieve and how they want to get there – you can have three different people wanting the same goal, but they each get there a different way.”
John has been with Robertson Hyetts since October 2019 and is the Head of the Castlemaine office. He enjoys the day-to-day work at the firm and working with such supportive and highly skilled teams in Bendigo and Castlemaine.
Beyond a long, successful career, John is involved in the community through his interests in sport, food, music and the arts. He has recently discovered a green thumb and is finding great satisfaction in watching his garden grow and evolve into a relaxing oasis.
His work in Commercial and Property Law means that John has many opportunities to work with the local community – something he also enjoys. The ability to network, collaborate and help local businesses achieve their goals means seeing his community grow and flourish – which is just as satisfying as watching his garden grow.
