Bullying and harassment can happen in any workplace. This type of behaviour can have a negative impact on an individual’s health and wellbeing and affect their ability to do their job. It can also contribute to loss of productivity, staff turnover, absenteeism, low morale and financial costs.
An employer is best to manage claims of workplace bullying and harassment by dealing with it as soon as they become aware there is a problem. An employer’s failure to prevent or address workplace bullying and harassment may contribute to a working environment that creates a risk to health and safety. Effectively responding to issues when they are raised can stop the situation happening again and reinforce to employees that workplace bullying and harassment is dealt with seriously by their employer.
Drawing on current trends, in this session Grevis Beard will provide practical information on how to respond to claims of bullying and harassment in the workplace and what employers should do when an issue is raised, including:
- Understanding the seriousness of a claim
- Deciding on whether to deal with an issue through early intervention or a formal investigation
- Looking after the health and wellbeing of all parties involved in the claim
- Improving workplace culture to prevent workplace bullying and harassment
